What we are experiencing at the University of Seville has no name. From the Sindicato de Estudiantes and Libres y Combativas we have denounced the sexist harassment that is taking place at the University. And as if it were a revenge, the Rectorate, who knows perfectly well what is happening, has launched against us an intolerable persecution for it.
A few months ago, two of our members, students of the Faculty of History, received the notice that the Rectorate had opened disciplinary proceedings against them for denouncing this situation. And the sanction was not long in coming: the loss of partial enrollment rights for one academic year or semester. In other words, to be expelled.
We have repeatedly appealed this case, questioning the Rector's Office as to why the University's harassment protocol is not being applied and presenting numerous and convincing proofs. And what response have we received? The imposition of these sanctions on our members, accompanied by the official comment that the evidence we have sent “does not apply”.
The Rectorate is criminalizing the victims and sending a clear message: “if you denounce sexism, we can kick you out of the university”. We have to say it clearly, it is the application of the program of the far-right regarding women in the public university: impunity to harass and persecute the victims.
This affects us all. The University of Seville wants to throw away all the rights that we have worked so hard to achieve. They want us to be intimidated and silent. But if we bow our heads today, the blows will keep on coming.
We ask you to contact us, to help us denounce this outrage, to participate in the activities we carry out, and to spread the collection of signatures that we have launched so that these proceedings are withdrawn immediately.
